GR Auto Gallery is pleased to offer this 1952 Crosley Super Sedan for your consideration. It is powered by a simple cast-iron 44ci inline-4 motor which is paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. The interior is extremely spartan, but this example does sport the bullet grille with optional rotating propeller. This example is in exceptional condition. The paint and brightwork present themselves very well and it rides on the factory 12-inch wheels with proper hubcaps.
These little cars are super unique, and many influential people such as Dwight Eisenhower, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Nelson Rockefeller were all notable owners. It will be quite hard to find another example that is this nice. These little Crosley’s aren’t well known, but they are a sweet little car.
Crosley was a small independent car maker that produced compact cars from 1939 till 1952 and was based out of Cincinnati Ohio and was founded by the owner of the Cincinnati Reds. Powel Crosley Jr. got his fortune from the mass production of radios. Despite Crosley amassing a large fortune from radios it was his lifelong dream to have his own automobile company. Offering a variety of body styles including sedans, convertibles, pickups, wagons, and vans, all of Crosley’s cars were very simple with solid axles, body on frame construction, 80in wheelbases, leaf springs, and engines smaller than 1 liter. Crosley’s first car was introduced in April of 1939 and the little roadster was sold for just $325. The outbreak of WW2 stopped car production and the company found itself manufacturing gun turrets for B-24 bombers. Surprisingly, Crosley hit the ground running after the end of the war and was the first American production car offered with four wheel disc brakes as well as the first production overhead cam engine.
